My name is Louis Elton. I’m on a quest to craft an entire outfit from underwear-to-outerwear entirely in Britain. Why? To trigger a renaissance in local British manufacturing and to heal the nation’s spirit, of course! Welcome to the scores of new followers who subscribed to Nation of Artisans this week (if you forgot how you got here, here’s a reminder of what I am doing)
In this week’s post, the TL;DR is I have my first design for a pair of boxers — drawn by the artist J.G. Fox. I’m delighted with it.
1. Will these be the best boxers ever?
Long time readers may remember that a few weeks ago, I presented a briefing for the design of a toile de jouy for Nation of Artisans’ first product: boxer shorts.
I shared the brief with maverick artist and friend, J.G. Fox.
Fox transformed my vision into a wonderful design.
Presenting… The Virtues of Boxers (2025)
Inspired by the patron saint of underwear, Saint Pantaleon, and his commedia dell’arte avatar Pantalone, Fox presents five of the great virtues of boxers:
Protectio (protection) — boxers as a bullfighting muleta.
Commoditas (comfort) — boxers as the ultimate vessel for relaxation.
Modestia (modesty) — boxers as the last defence against immodesty.
Sustentatio (sustentation) — boxers as originally intended 🥊.
Seductio (seduction) — boxers as a tool for seduction.
In addition, Fox features some delightful rogue cherubs wielding some rogue boxers.
These designs are the basis of a repeat pattern that will soon be printed on Nation of Artisans’ first pair of boxers. Lore by design.
A question to my readers: which colour should they be printed in?
This is what it looks like in red…
If you would like to pre-order some of these boxers, email me.
2. The Elders of NOA Advisory Chat
I finally got round to launching the Elders of NOA advisory chat for readers who want to shape the future of Nation of Artisans.
If you want to join, then feel free to become a premium subscriber.
You will also get early access to the fruits of my labours. Currently we are discussing next steps of the logo…
Until next time.
Readers! I need your help. Nation of Artisans is growing steadily, but to go bigger and better sooner, I need your help. If you know one person who might be interested in this project, refer them, and give them this link (Nation of Artisans) so they can see what I am actually doing. We’re building a cult here, and I need you all to radicalise others.
